Sword Care

For both the wood and metal finishes of your sword one of the best products for sword care we have found is; "Renaissance" Micro-Crystalline Wax Polish.

This is a blend of highly refined micro-crystalline fossil-origin waxes made to a formula used by the British Museum and restoration specialists internationally. Used to revive and protect valuable furniture, leather, paintings, metals, marble, onyx, ivory, etc. Freshens colours and imparts a soft sheen. Renaissance wax polish will also protect polished surfaces from normal domestic spillages including wine and spirits.

The wax can be purchased through the following:

Wood Finish Supply

Rockler Woodworking

Highland Woodworking

An issue with even high quality Chinese swords can sometimes be the drying out of the wood. The wax will help moderate this issue, however sometimes the brass rings on the scabbard can tend to come loose. A light application of a silicone glue underneath the brass should assure that they are held in place.

To maintain the life and beauty of your sword be sure and wipe it down with a clean soft cloth after each use to remove finger prints or other oils left from touching the blade and wood. You may also like to use a light coating of lemon oil or tung oil on the wood parts of your sword and scabbard.
