2025 Wudang Sword Seminar

Dr. Lu demonstrating sword approaches

The first Sydney Wudang Sword Seminar was hosted over the weekend of the 14th and 15th of June 2025. We were lucky enough to host Dr. Lu Mei-Hui and Master Chang WuNa, the current lineage holders of Wudang Dan Pai in Sydney. A busy weekend, each day was packed with drills to improve the sword skills of the attendees. Seeing over 27 registered attendees in total over both days, a great time was had by all.

Saturday kicked us off in the morning with the basics of how to thrust, and do solo practice in Wujian (Dancing Sword) of thrusts, and a couple of other basic cuts to link them together. After morning tea, the second half of the morning was dedicated to partner drills based out of the first section of Wudang Duijian, learning how to thrust and deflect thrusts. Before half an hour of free sparring practice before lunch.

Saturday began with Neigong and Qigong exercises to warm up, and limber people up from the muscle soreness of a busy day on the Saturday, along with adding Pi, Dian, Ti and the Yin-Yang Sword changes texhniques to the Wujian practice. The second half of the morning was learning to utilise them in free drills, along with learning the “rhythm game”, an exercise to learn how to respond at the same pace as their partner, as a way of learning to not rely purely upon speed to land a blow in sparring, but to use an appropriate technique instead.

The afternoon was spent doing drills and exercises derived from Section 5 of the Wudang Duijian, along with further free sparring.
